On the Occasion of World Creativity and Innovation Day (A/RES/71/284)
21 April
Today, the International Diplomatic Union joins the global community in celebrating World Creativity and Innovation Day, established by the United Nations to promote creative thinking, encourage innovation in science, arts, technology, and entrepreneurship, and recognize their essential role in achieving sustainable development and addressing global challenges. This day provides an opportunity to highlight the importance of supporting creators and innovators, and empowering communities to benefit from new ideas that enhance quality of life and foster social and economic progress.
Creativity and innovation are not merely intellectual activities; they are drivers of positive change and foundational pillars for strengthening community resilience and solving complex problems effectively and sustainably. This day reminds us that investing in creativity and innovation contributes to building societies capable of facing future challenges and enhancing global competitiveness.
We honor creators, innovators, researchers, educational institutions, and community organizations who dedicate themselves to promoting creative thought, confront challenges with determination and perseverance, and continue efforts to develop innovative solutions that positively impact communities. Their commitment inspires the international community to foster a culture of innovation and forward-thinking.
In line with its mandate, the International Diplomatic Union remains committed to supporting programs and initiatives that enhance creativity and innovation, including workshops, research projects, partnerships with regional and international institutions, and community-driven initiatives focused on skill development, youth empowerment, and the promotion of sustainable solutions to local and global challenges.
Around the world, activities marking this day—including conferences, forums, competitions, and awareness campaigns—highlight the role of creativity and innovation in advancing sustainable development while supporting professionals and organizations that document initiatives and contribute to achieving tangible societal impact.
On this occasion, the IDU calls upon governments, international organizations, and civil society to reaffirm their commitment to fostering creativity and innovation, empowering creators, and harnessing innovative ideas to achieve sustainable development and shared prosperity. Only through collaboration and dedicated effort can we lay the foundation for an innovative and sustainable future.
